About How much over the speed limit do police normally allow

How much over the speed limit do police normally allow?
I live in Fort Wayne, Indiana. I normally go the speed limit, but when I do, I normally get tailgated, honked at, or flipped-off. How much does the FWPD or any police allow (cushion) you to travel over the speed limit on normal city or suburban streets? I don't mean in school zones or construction zones because I always go the speed limit just in case someone runs out in front of me and I know police are very strict in these areas.

for city/suburban roads, you can usually do about 5 over the limit. i've actually known people that got pulled over for driving exactly the speed limit, the cops said they looked suspicious for doing so. go figure.

usually the cushion is 5 miles over. but 8+ over can almost guarantee a ticket. (at least in tx)

usually about five but it depends on the cops mood.

Well, in my town it's zero. It's a speed limit, not a speed suggestion. What makes me laugh are the people who get pulled over and they whine that they were "going with the flow of traffic"-that law isn't to allow you to speed if everyone else is-it's intended for you to go BELOW the speed limit if the flow of traffic is lower than the posted limit. It's never okay to speed, and there's very good reasons the limits are posted as they are.

It all depends on the town. Stick to the limit if you are new there. Through learning, you will find out that in like Kenneth City, FL. one can get a ticket for 3 over. But then, on I285 around Atlanta, 'the flow' is about 70 and the signs read 55....it's a real joke. If anyone is going 55, they get run over...lol

In Texas, it is normally 10 over, except for school zones, then it is zero. Some small towns may stop you for anything over if they are a speed trap town, but the general rule on the highways of Texas is everyone does 10 over and they don't get stopped.

5 miles over 5 miles under

It depends on the agency and the officer. Legally police officers can issue a citation for 1MPH over, but normally that is not the case. Ask other drivers in the area you know what speed they normally drive at and if they have been issued citations for speed and how fast they were going.

Where I live it's generally 10 over on the highways and about 5 over in residential areas.
