Should I go to see my sick grandfather?
My grandfather has been really sick lately. I haven't seen him in many years because he lives in Fort Wayne, Indiana, and I live in Atlanta, Georgia. My mom, my aunt and my grandmother are going to see him on Thursday. I would like to see him also, but I don't think I could stand to make such a long trip with my grandmother. She's always nagging at me about everything and always makes me feel bad. I really want to see my granddad, but I don't know if I could put up with her. She makes me feel horrible because she always points out my physical flaws. My mom said that if I don't go this Thursday, then we could make another trip with out my grandmother at the end of the month. Should I go this time or at the end of the month when I won't have to travel with my grandmother.

If your grandfather would happen to not make it, you would really regret not visiting him. Though, if he's staying strong I'd wait to see him without your grandmother.

I would wait until the end of the month. It's so wrong for your Grandmother to be so mean, and I'm very sorry that you have to deal with that. Just remember, you are beautiful, just the way you are!

your call. bringe your ipod and ignore her, or you could accept that she will nag at you as a cost of going to se him. or you can take your mums advice and go later. but i have to put the question...is he so ill that he might not make it until you can travel minus gran? if not then def go later.

Honestly you really should go see him, both times if possible. Ignore your grandmother's comments. She has lived life and you are just starting I assume. Let her have her snaps at you because you will be doing this for your grandfather. Just hum a tune to yourself in your head and just give her enough of a response to be recognized as your paying attention and the best thing to do with grandparents that are like that is to simply nod and agree and say "unhuh you're right" This is for your grandfather who should be happy you made it. Ignore her and do it for him. Hope that is helpful.

Make the trip with your mom, aunt and grandmother. There might not be another trip. I'm sure that your grandmother THINKS she is being helpful, rather than hurtful (if that helps understand why). But here are some solutions for dealing with her: a) Wear an ipod the entire time and ignore her b) ask your mother or aunt to say something to your grandmother on your behalf c) ask her why she feels the need to point out your flaws.

There may not be another time. Case in point: My grandfather was very ill with congestive heart failure and a leaky aortic heart valve. Death was imminent. This was during a time that I had no money in savings and no one was willing to help me travel to see him on his last days. The trip would have taken well over 2000 miles for the visit to see him for the last time, which would've been fine by me had I had the reserves. Did I feel guilty? Somehow, I didn't allow myself to feel guilt, but I did wish him peace through his cross-over. I was glad that my mother and uncle got to see him during his last days. That brought some measure of peace, but not everyone feels the way I do. Everyone's situation is entirely different. Also, my grandfather and I were never close, so, this decision was sort of a no-brainer. If you're close to your grandfather and you can come up with some strategies to tune out the "crazy-making" that your relatives (specifically your grandmother) inflicts upon you during the drive, then I would definitely not put it off. It's relative to what makes YOU feel comfortable. Waiting until the end of the month may, for whatever reason, not arrive. Things happen in life that put off plans. The time is now, and if you're so inclined, go. Find a way to tune out your grandmother's yackety-yacking.

Bring along an IPOD that you can listen to and tune out grandmother. He is alive now. Don't tempt fate and ask mom to speak to grandma. I thought I was the only person to call my grandfather, granddad.

What should my salary be? BS Industrial Technology 2 yrs experience...?
*Purdue University Fort Wayne '07, 4.0 gpa, no previous work experience *Currently have 2 years experience with my current company which hired me straight out of college *Work for a small company (5 employees) engineering liquid-handling/sterilization systems. I do not physically build the systems. *This company has provided extensive training in Inventor, purchased all the latest equipment for me, and provided a home laptop. *First raise after 6 mos, second after 1 year, raises are on hold for the current year but will be reassessed in December. Insurance is paid. A couple grand Christmas bonus each year. *I travel once every two months for 3-4 days. *I work 40-50 hours/week, determined my own time to come in (10am), lunches are relaxed (I can take a long lunch if I please), I wear tshirt/jeans/hat to work with the exception of 4 times/year formal attire, as long as we're not busy I can take a few days off here and there, and get a few weeks of vacation each year. *I enjoy the relaxed atmosphere, but feel I am overworked and underpaid. About four times a year, I work some shifts that have me here til midnight (so, about 15-20 days/year). In your opinion, what would a reasonable salary be? Thanks!

About Where can I find a breakfast dish called "garbage"
Where can I find a breakfast dish called "garbage"?
Years and years ago there was a show on either the Travel Channel or Food Network that featured a enormous breakfast. I may have the name wrong. The food was piled onto a plate and covered in cheese. Some of the ingredients were eggs, hash browns , sausage, maybe chili and cheese and probably many other ingredients I can't recall. I don't recall the name of the show, but I remember the segment. There was a little girl sitting next to some guy that ordered it and told him it looked "disgusting". The restaurant is a small place and they were sitting at the counter. Pathetic that I can remember all this other stuff but not the dish. The dish was on a oval plate and once the cook put the food on it he covered it in cheese. Now I have looked at a website about a place in Rochester N.Y. and Cindy's diner in Fort Wayne Indiana and those two are NOT what I am talking about.. If anyone can tell me what the dish is called I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks

Any must stop places in Ohio/Chicago?
I'm going to be traveling through Ohio from Kentucky. I'll be going up through Cincinnati, Columbus, and Cleveland then west through Fort Wayne to Chicago. From Chicago I'll be going back south through Indianapolis back to Kentucky I was just wondering if there were any fun attractions/events etc that I should stop and see along the way. Any and all suggestions will be appreciated. Thanks so much!

If you're a fan of Improv comedy, you can't beat the Second City Theatre in downtown Chicago. Also fun things in Chicago are the John Hancock Building, Wrigley Field, the Sears tower, Shedd Aquarium, the Field Museum, the Museum of Science and Industry, and there are many fantastic restaurants and bars. This is only a handful of the great things to do in that wonderful city, however!

Along the way...Indiana Dunes National Park in Indiana. You might also want to check out South Bend to see the campus of Notre Dame. It is nice. As for what to see in Chicago, there are a bunch of great museums to see. I would recommend an architecture tour. You should visit the Willis Tower (used to be the Sears Tower). Shopping on the Mag Mile is something you might want to do. You could also head up to Gurnee to go to Six Flags. For food, check out Portillo's, The Signature Room at the 95th, some pizza (Gino's, Lou's or Girodano's) and head into Chinatown (be careful...the area around Chinatown is not the greatest).

Going on a trip through Ohio/Chicago, what should I go see?
I'm going to be traveling through Ohio from Kentucky. I'll be going up through Cincinnati, Columbus, and Cleveland then west through Fort Wayne to Chicago. From Chicago I'll be going back south through Indianapolis back to Kentucky I was just wondering if there were any fun attractions/events etc that I should stop and see along the way. You've got to see the Cloud Gate sculpture while in Chicago, most popularly known as "The Bean". It's a rounded, reflective piece about the size of a small house in which the surrounding skyline, you and everyone else can be seen clearly, although somewhat distorted. It's one of the main attractions in Millennium Park, just east of "The Loop". Other fun things to do or see in the city include: Buckingham Fountain Navy Pier Art Institute Sears Tower Chicago Cultural Center Architectural Tour by boat Shopping on the Magnificent Mile Lunch or dinner at Pizzeria Uno or Due Any of a number of weekend neighborhood festivals or art fairs Check the Explore Chicago website for more: http://www.explorechicago.org/city/en/things_see_do.html

I would visit Cedar Point in Sandusky, Ohio. If you like amusement parks, you will not be disappointed.

I'd day get a City Pass for Chicago and go see Shedd Aquarium, The Field Museum, Adler Planetarium, Museum of Science and Industry, and Skydeck Chicago(Sears Tower) or John Hancock Observatory. I don't really like the Planetarium or Shedd Aquarium but that's just me, the pass is a great deal. OR The Chicago GO Card, gives you access to...basically all the places the City Pass gives you are so much more. It's more expensive but I'm not sure how much you want to spend. If you get this once be sure to check out the before mentioned places as well as Brookfield Zoo and Art Institute of Chicago. The Museum of Contemporary Art is also great, but check out what exhibits they have on their websites to see if it's worth it. Also if you're not a big fan of lots of walking or Zoo's, just go check out Lincoln Park Zoo, its free but still great. Take a water taxi! They're cheap and a great boat ride to Navy Pier from around the Wrigley Building.
